Deterioration of Forest Roads Threatens Our Drinking Water
"It's high time that Congress provided the Forest Service with the funding it needs to manage and maintain its road system," writes Mike Dombeck in an op-ed in yesterday's San Jose Mercury News. And Dombeck, former chief of the U.S. Forest Service and professor of global conservation at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, should know. Dombeck's op-ed supports Rep. Norm Dick's initiative to provide $65 million for road maintenance and decommissioning in our national forests. "The bottom line" writes Dombeck, "is that the better we maintain our road system, the healthier our fish, wildlife and drinking water will be." To read the full op-ed, click here.
